Gmunden's Enchanting Secrets
Our recent trip took us to the charming town of Gmunden, Austria, nestled along the shores of Lake Traunsee.
This picturesque destination offered us a blend of natural beauty and historical charm, making it an unforgettable part of our European adventure.

Schloss Ort: A Fairytale Castle

One of the highlights of our visit was exploring Schloss Ort, a fairytale castle located on an island in Lake Traunsee. We took a scenic boat ride from the lakeshore to the castle, which added a magical touch to our experience. Schloss Ort dates back to the 10th century and is renowned for its well-preserved medieval architecture and stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
The castle is open to visitors from April to October, with guided tours available from 10 AM to 5 PM. Tickets are priced at €10 for adults and €5 for children. Wandering through its historic rooms and strolling along its picturesque grounds was a truly enchanting experience.

The Gmunden Ceramic Museum: Craftsmanship and Art

Another must-visit attraction was the Gmunden Ceramic Museum, which highlights the town’s rich tradition of ceramic craftsmanship. The museum showcases a wide array of exquisite ceramic pieces, including the famous Gmunden pottery with its distinctive green and white designs.
The museum is open daily from 9 AM to 6 PM, with an admission fee of €8 for adults and €4 for students. We were fascinated by the intricate designs and the history behind them, which gave us a deeper appreciation for the local craft.

Nearby Retreat: The Seehotel Schwan

For our stay, we chose the Seehotel Schwan, a charming lakeside hotel that perfectly complemented our Gmunden experience. Located just a short walk from the town center, the hotel offers stunning views of Lake Traunsee and the surrounding mountains. The rooms were elegantly furnished and provided a cozy retreat after our daily adventures. Prices for a double room start at around €180 per night, which includes breakfast.

Dining at The Seehotel Schwan

Dining at the hotel was a treat in itself. We enjoyed a delicious dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, which specializes in Austrian cuisine with a modern twist. The menu featured local specialties like Wiener Schnitzel and trout from Lake Traunsee. We particularly loved the roasted trout, served with seasonal vegetables and potatoes, priced at €25.
For dessert, the apple strudel was a delightful end to our meal, costing around €8. The combination of great food, beautiful views, and excellent service made dining at the Seehotel Schwan a memorable experience.
