In The Ship's World
The ocean has been an important part of human history since humans built the first raft. In recent years, there have been many new ships, continuous innovation, and various records have been refreshed. This article will introduce the world's best of six records of ships.
1. PRELUDE FLNG
The Prelude FLNG is a large floating dock commissioned by Anglo-Dutch Shell to manufacture Samsung Heavy Industries. The ship is 488 meters long, 74 meters wide, and 110 meters high. It is the size of four football fields and has a displacement of about 600,000 tons.
It was built with about 260,000 tons of steel and has more than 150 patents. It is the largest marine equipment in the world. Although it looks like a boat, it can't technically be called a boat because it needs to be towed where it needs to go, not on its own power.
2. KNOCK NEVIS
The Nok Nevis is a VLCC-class supertanker that once belonged to Norway and has been dismantled. It was once the longest boat and artificial float in the world, over a quarter of a mile long, longer than the Eiffel Tower lying down.
And its full load is as high as 657,019 tons, which is the world record holder for deadweight tonnage.
3. PIONEERING SPIRIT
"Pioneering Spirit", formerly known as "Pieter Schelte", is currently the largest offshore engineering vessel in the world. With a length of 382 meters and a beam of 124 meters, the ship is a hoisting pipe-laying engineering vessel and one of the largest catamarans ever built in the world.
The ship's bow slot is equipped with eight jibs capable of lifting the 48,000-ton offshore platform superstructure. At the same time, the swing beam lift at the rear can lift substructures weighing up to 25,000 tons, and can transport two components at the same time.
The vessel is also equipped with large facilities for laying pipes, which will also make it the largest pipe-laying vessel.
4. MV DOULOS
MV DOULOS is a cruise ship built in 1914. It was recognized by the Guinness World Records as the oldest cruise ship in operation when it was in operation. It was once called "the world's largest bookstore at sea". The ship was officially decommissioned in 2010 and was renamed "MV Doulos Phos" after being sold to a Singaporean businessman. In September 2013, it was towed to Batan Island for refit. The new owner plans to put the boat on Bintan Island as a resort hotel after the refit.
5. Harmony of the Seas
As the third ship in the Royal Caribbean Oasis class, Harmony of the Seas is not only the most expensive cruise ship in the world at the moment, but it is also the widest cruise ship. The cruise ship is 362 meters long, about 50 meters longer than the Eiffel Tower in France, and about 66 meters wide. It is the widest cruise ship to date and 100 meters longer than the famous "Titanic" in history. Costing 800 million euros (about 1.4 billion U.S. dollars), the giant ship has 16 decks and 2,700 cabins, and can carry up to 6,360 tourists and 2,100 crew members. Harmony of the Seas is also the only cruise ship in the world with a water park.
6. AZZAM
The super yacht "Azzam" was built by Lürssen, one of the world's leading super yacht manufacturers. Although this superyacht is not the most expensive, ranking only the fourth most expensive private yacht in history, it is the largest private yacht in the world with a length of 590 feet (about 180 meters). Azzam is "the most complex and challenging yacht ever built".
