Cactus is a genus in the family of Cactaceae.
The cactus plant is a large family, with at least two thousand species of members.
Its homelands are in the Americas and Africa, with the largest number of species in Mexico, which is known as the "Kingdom of Cacti".
Morphological characteristics
The Cactus is a clumping, fleshy shrub.
The upper part is wide, obovoid, and subelliptic, the front part is rounded, with irregular margins, and the whole body is glabrous.
The spines are yellow, with thickly drilled tips, recurved, and with short flat roots.
Its species is mostly flat and rounded. The flowering period is between June and December.
The main uses of cactus
1. Cactus can be used medicinally. It has the effect of clearing heat and detoxifying the body, relaxing the muscles, dispersing blood stasis and swelling, detoxifying the intestines, cooling the blood and relieving pain, laxative, stomachic, and analgesic, and suppressing cough.
2. Ornamental role. some grafted cactus varieties are small and cute and can be placed in living rooms, desks, and other places to do ornamental, in addition, to having the role of absorbing toxic gases in the air and radiation protection.
3. Cosmetic effects. Cut the cactus and apply the juice on your face, then wash it off with water after 15 minutes, it has hydrating effects.
Because the cactus is hardy and good to breed, more and more people are now using it as an indoor ornamental potted plant. So, how to raise a small cactus?
1. Soil
Cactus like loose, fertile, and well-drained soil, so they can be planted in a mixture of rotting soil, garden soil, and river sand.
2. Supplemental light
In the summer, you need to avoid the plant being exposed to strong light at noon, otherwise, it will dry out easily, but in other seasons, you can provide full sunlight to the cactus.
3. Water
The cactus does not require much water and has a strong water storage capacity, so you can water the plant every 10 days.
4. Pest and disease protection
In the process of raising small cacti, the plant is prone to bacterial infection and leaf rot, so it is necessary to strengthen the air circulation to avoid the small cacti being in a humid environment for a long time.
Increase the light hours of the plant so that the sunlight can destroy the bacteria on the small cacti, thus reducing the production of pests and diseases.
5. Temperature
Cactus growth temperature of 20 ~ 30 ℃, the growth period to have day and night temperature difference, preferably 30 ~ 40 ℃ during the day, and 15 ~ 25 ℃ at night.
