Hyacinth
Hyacinths originated in the Northeast Mediterranean and have a long cultivation history, which can be traced back to the 15th century. For more than 300 years, hyacinths have been the favorite flower breeding object of European horticultural plant breeders. The breeding goal was to cultivate novel flower colors, double petals, and large and beautiful flowers.
hyacinth soon spread from Turkey to Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Austria, France, and other European countries.
Hyacinths are fond of sunny and cold environment. They are suitable for growing in cool and humid environment and loose and fertile sandy soil. Ponding is prohibited. They like warm and humid winter, cool and slightly dry summer, sunny or semi cloudy environment. They also like fertilizer and should be fertile and well drained sandy loam. Ground planting, potting and hydroponics are all available.
Hyacinths take root in autumn and new buds are unearthed in early spring. They bloom in March and ripen in late May. In early June, the aboveground parts wither and enter dormancy. Flower bud differentiations are carried out in the dormant stage. The suitable temperature for differentiation is about 25 ℃, and the differentiation process lasts about one month. There should be a low temperature stage of about two months from flower bud differentiation to elongation and growth, and the temperature should not exceed 13 ℃.
Hyacinths are low and neat plants, they have dignified inflorescences, rich flower colors and beautiful flower posture. They are not only one of the famous bulbous flowers in early spring, but also an important potted flower species. They are suitable for arranging flower beds, flower borders and flower troughs. They can also be used as cut flowers, potted plants, or hydroponic ornamental. They have the function of filtering dust. The fragrance of flowers can stabilize mood and eliminate fatigue. In addition to ornamental flowers, they can also be extracted aromatic oil. However, the bulbs are toxic. If eaten by mistake, they will cause dizziness, stomach spasm, diarrhea, and other symptoms.
